He earned a\u00a0BAFTA\u00a0and a\u00a0Golden Globe\u00a0nomination for his portrayal of serial killer\u00a0Ian Brady\u00a0in the British television film\u00a0Longford\u00a0(2006). He was nominated for a\u00a0BAFTA for his portrayal of new wave and punk rock musician\u00a0Ian Dury\u00a0in the biopic\u00a0Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll\u00a0(2010). He also played\u00a0Alfred Pennyworth\u00a0in\u00a0The Batman\u00a0(2022).
