Walter Charles Dance\u00a0OBE\u00a0(born 10 October 1946) is an English actor. He is known for playing intimidating, authoritarian characters and villains. Dance started his career on stage with the\u00a0Royal Shakespeare Company\u00a0(RSC) before appearing in film and television. For his services to drama, he was appointed an\u00a0OBE\u00a0by\u00a0Queen Elizabeth II\u00a0in 2006.<\/p>\n
He made his feature film debut in the\u00a0James Bond film\u00a0For Your Eyes Only\u00a0(1981). He has since appeared in a string of critically acclaimed period films, including\u00a0Michael Collins\u00a0(1996),\u00a0Gosford Park (2001),\u00a0The Imitation Game\u00a0(2014),\u00a0Mank\u00a0(2020), and\u00a0The King’s Man\u00a0(2021). He has also appeared in the films\u00a0The Golden Child\u00a0(1986),\u00a0Alien 3 (1992),\u00a0Last Action Hero\u00a0(1993),\u00a0Dracula Untold (2014), and\u00a0Godzilla: King of the Monsters\u00a0(2019). He made his directorial film debut with the drama film\u00a0Ladies in Lavender\u00a0(2004), which he also wrote and executive-produced.<\/p>\n
On television, Dance played Guy Perron in\u00a0The Jewel in the Crown\u00a0(1984), Mr Tulkinghorn in\u00a0Bleak House\u00a0(2005), for which he was nominated for a\u00a0Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie,\u00a0Tywin Lannisterin\u00a0Game of Thrones\u00a0(2011\u20132015), and\u00a0Lord Mountbatten\u00a0in the third and fourth seasons of\u00a0The Crown\u00a0(2019\u20132020), for which he was nominated for a\u00a0Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.<\/p>\n
