Harley Jessup\u00a0(born 1954) is an American production designer and visual effects art director nominated for two Visual Effects Academy Awards, winning once. At\u00a0Pixar Animation Studios, Jessup has been a production designer for\u00a0Monsters, Inc.(with Bob Pauley),\u00a0Ratatouille,\u00a0Cars 2,\u00a0Presto,\u00a0The Good Dinosaur\u00a0and Pixar’s animated feature,\u00a0Coco. Before coming to Pixar, Jessup was a production designer on\u00a0Walt Disney Pictures’\u00a0James and the Giant Peach.<\/p>\n
Jessup was a visual effects art director at\u00a0Industrial Light & Magic\u00a0from 1987 to 1994 and served as the ILM art department creative director from 1991 to 1994. His visual effects art direction credits include\u00a0Innerspace(for which he won an Academy Award),\u00a0Hook\u00a0(nominated for an Academy Award),\u00a0The Hunt for Red October\u00a0(with Steve Beck),\u00a0Ghostbusters II,\u00a0Joe Versus the Volcano, and\u00a0Fire in the Sky.<\/p>\n
In 1985, Jessup won an Emmy Award for best visual effects for\u00a0The Ewok Adventure, produced by\u00a0Lucasfilm, Ltd.\u00a0for\u00a0ABC Television.<\/p>\n
Harley Jessup began his career at Korty Films, designing animated short films for\u00a0Sesame Street, including\u00a0The Adventures of Thelma Thumb. He served as art director on\u00a0John Korty’s animated feature\u00a0Twice Upon a Time.<\/p>\n
Jessup has written and illustrated three children’s books,\u00a0What Alice Up to?\u00a0and\u00a0Grandma Summer\u00a0for Viking Children’s Books and\u00a0Welcome to Monstropolis\u00a0for Disney\/Egmont. He studied graphic design at\u00a0Oregon State University\u00a0(BFA) and\u00a0Stanford University\u00a0(MFA).<\/p>\n
