Octavia Lenora Spencer\u00a0(born May 25, 1970) is an American actress. She has received\u00a0various accolades, including an\u00a0Academy Award, a\u00a0British Academy Film Award, and a\u00a0Golden Globe Award, in addition to nominations for two\u00a0Primetime Emmy Awards.<\/p>\n
Spencer made her film debut in the 1996 drama\u00a0A Time to Kill. Following a decade of brief roles in film and television, her breakthrough came in 2011 when she played a maid in 1960s America in the drama film\u00a0The Help, which won her the\u00a0Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In ensuing years, she won the\u00a0National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress\u00a0for her role in\u00a0Ryan Coogler’s biopic\u00a0Fruitvale Station\u00a0(2013), had a recurring role in the\u00a0CBS\u00a0sitcom\u00a0Mom\u00a0(2013\u20132015), and starred in the\u00a0Fox\u00a0drama series\u00a0Red Band Society\u00a0(2014\u20132015).<\/p>\n
